CCTV exposes 4 robbers, fraudsters in Oshodi
LAGOS—Nemesis caught up with two suspected phone thieves and two fraudsters when operatives of Rapid Response Squad, RRS, arrested them after one of the three mobile closed circuit television, CCTV, cameras stationed in Oshodi area of the state, exposed them
The suspects, who were arrested last week, were identified as Jelili Ganiu,19; Samson Owolabi, 23; Segun Lawoye, 47, an ex-convict, Toyin Samuel, 38.
Jelili and Owolabi were caught in the camera footage stealing items suspected to be mobile phones from a passer-by on Oshodi pedestrian bridge. They were monitored through the camera exchanging the stolen item with another suspect currently at large, before returning to the same location.
They were later trailed by RRS operatives attached to the vehicle and arrested at the foot of the pedestrian bridge. Both men, during interrogation at the RRS headquarters, confessed that they stole a mobile phone from a passer-by on the bridge and that the third suspect, who they exchanged the object with, was the keeper of stolen items. Jelili added that the third suspect, simply identified as Omo Nla, is the one who sold the phone and that the money was later shared in the evening.
“Owolabi and I are conductors in Oshodi, but when there is no work or we arrive late at the park to re-unite with our bosses, we steal phones, purses and other valuables from their owners at the pedestrian bridge,” Jelili confessed. Couple hypnotise victim According to the Police, the other suspects, Segun Latoye and Toyin Samuel, were arrested last Friday after being caught on camera thrice dispossessing victims of their belongings. On the last footage, they dispossessed a young lady of her bag containing two mobile phones and unspecified amount of money and then hurriedly boarding a bus after hypnotising their victim.
However, the lady regained her consciousness few minutes later and reported the incident to RRS officers, who contacted the CCTV mobile camera for footage of the area the incident took place. Segun and Toyin, who claimed to be husband and wife, confessed after being shown the video clip. Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Chike Oti, said the command will continue to apply technology in combating crime in the state, adding that the suspects will soon be charged to court.
